Bruce Kitchen, CCTC/School District Liaison San Bernardino & San Diego Counties SECOND LOOK AT SB 1105 PROVIDES CLARITY Late
last week the Senate Education Committee took a second look at the CTC
sponsored Senate Bill 1105 (Margett). You will recall this is proposed
legislation that would treat a plea of "no contest" the same as a
"guilty" plea when applied to revoking a teaching credential. It also
would allow the Commission on Teacher Credentialing to disclose the
findings of the Committee of Credentials beyond the current one year
limit handicap. The Committee postponed action at its original hearing
due to opposition presented by the California Teachers Association.
Action
to approve SB 1105 this time was solid and unanimous. It is good to
note that we were only one of several organizations in support of this
legislation. A group that included (surprise!) both the California
District Attorneys Association and the Los Angeles County District
Attorney's Office.
The
bill now moves on to the Senate Committee on Rules.
