Bruce Kitchen, CCTC/School District Liaison San Bernardino & San Diego Counties COMMISSION PROPOSES
ADDITIONAL BCLAD ROUTE
The Commission on Teacher Credentialing has sponsored legislation (AB 1871 by Assembly Member Coto) that would provide an additional route for bilingual-crosscultural credential candidates to obtain certification. Existing law requires candidates for the certificate to demonstrate certain abilities by oral and written examination. This bill would also authorize candidates to demonstrate those abilities by completing an approved program, or by a combination of examination and completing an approved program that consists of coursework or a combination of coursework and examinations. The resulting BCLAD license would be added as an endorsement to an existing credential eliminating the need for another certificate. The bill is scheduled for hearing before the
Assembly Education Committee on April 2. Letters of support should be
addressed to:
The Honorable Gene Mullin
Chair, Assembly Education Committee State Capitol, Room 2163 Sacramento, Ca 95814 The letter may be sent by fax to (916) 319-2119
You

The attached letter of support is provided for your reference.
